Ophiopogon Nigrescens is an excellent, versatile, plant for the garden. It looks fabulous planted in containers and old chimney pots. It is used to great effect as border edging in rows, along path and lawn edges. Superb as ground cover or simply on its own amongst other plants. It has dark, nearly black, narrow strappy grass-like leaves with white flower spikes in the summer.
The flowers are followed by purple berry-like fruits. It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit making it a reliable performer in the garden. Plant in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Once established it forms dense clumps of approximate height 20cm x spread 30cm. It is fully hardy and evergreen. Plants supplied in 1-litre pots.
